She Commands Me and I Obey
Ann Leckie doesn’t write simple, easy reading. The stories are paced well and elegantly written, but there is often an aspect that jars the reader from casually glancing through the words. The effect is that the reader must pause, if imperceptibly, to regain their footing, and reflect, if unconsciously, on the words, their meanings, their significance, and their place in the web of words that craft her tale.
If I have found her work challenging, I’ve found it doubly satisfying.
