Review: Lightless

lightless cover
Lightless by C.A. Higgins
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

A compelling and original story, Lightless is as much intrigue as it is science fiction. The science fiction portion is far future, but believable and not dismissive of actual science. The setting is a classified, experimental ship with an AI and a blackhole drive headed for the edge of the solar system. The main arc is political intrigue exposed through the course of an interrogation. The story provides both obvious clues and misdirection that keep the story interesting and the reader guessing. Lightless is fine debut by Higgins, who has deftly spun hard sci-fi with believable drama and characters that bring the pages to life.
