Daikichi Kawachi makes a trip back to his home to attend his grandfather’s funeral. He is surprised to find there is a young girl in the house. When he asks his mother who’s child it is he discovers that his grandfather had a child at his late age. Disgusted by his family’s reluctance to take in the six year old Rin, thirty year old bachelor Daikichi decides to take on the duty.
The first episode opens with a very pleasing water color style that I was hoping would last through the show. After the opening credits it changes to a traditional style which was also done quite well. The animation is welcome departure from the digital junk farm. The soft lines and painted backgrounds give it a nostalgic treatment well suited to the story so far.
Cruchyroll will be streaming new episodes beginning Thursdays at 12:30 p.m. EDT. I’m looking forward to seeing how Daikichi and Rin get along.
