Man Treats Mugger Right
Back in the winter of ’08 Julio Diaz, of the Bronx, had a run in with a mugger. Rather than take one of the tactics most would, he took the least likely tactic anyone would. Not only did he sacrifice his wallet, he offered his assailant his coat, “Hey, wait a minute. You forgot something. If you’re going to be robbing people for the rest of the night, you might as well take my coat to keep you warm.”
When the teen asked why Diaz would offer his coat, Diaz explained, “If you’re willing to risk your freedom for a few dollars, then I guess you must really need the money. I mean, all I wanted to do was get dinner and if you really want to join me … hey, you’re more than welcome.
After their meal Diaz noted that he couldn’t pay because he had just given his would be mugger his wallet. Diaz offered to cover the tab if he could have his wallet back. Diaz then offered the young man his $20 if he would surrender the knife he had mugged Diaz with earlier. He did, and Diaz went home to share the story with his mother.
“I figure, you know, .if you treat people right, you can only hope that they treat you right It’s as simple as it gets in this complicated world.” Julio Diaz
